In President Obama's speech last night there was one true statement that rang clear for most working and middle class Americans, but it was said not by President Obama, but by Congressman Wilson of SC who stated aloud, what most Americans have known all along, "You LIE!" While Wilson's comment was totally inappropriate, his sense of frustration over having a plan rammed down his throat is understandable and he echoed the feelings of the majority of Middle America who are fed up with a President and a party that has no clue what life is like in the real world right now.
President Obama has a serious disconnect with Middle America.
Our President lives in a rarefied world of liberal, far left, government elitists, who honesty believe only they know what the American Public needs, but they have no real experience in what middle class life is like today.
Middle and working class Americans are shopping at Walmart, not Whole Foods, and they watch the welfare mom in line ahead of them who bought steaks for herself and junk food for her kids and pay for it with a food stamp card and then watch her get into a newer car than they have and drive off. The American public are fed up with entitlement programs that were originally designed to be a "hand up in time of need" turned in to a birth to death, multi generational institutions that consume increasingly huge amounts of taxpayer dollars with little benefit to society.
President Obama does not understand that mandatory Health Care Insurance is fundamentally different than the concept of mandatory Automobile Insurance. Americans can "choose" if they want to own a car or not. Millions of Americans, in fact, don't own a car because they live in major cities where they don't need one. Do you remember when the people who pushed for mandatory car insurance all said "well if everyone is insured then car insurance premiums will go down for everyone". We all know that car insurance has not gone down in price, in fact, car insurance, like everything else has gone up in price. While everyone does agree that Health care reform is necessary, few agree, that a major government "intervention" into Health care is a wise, or productive thing, for this government to do in time of economic crisis.
Mandatory Health insurance represents another intrusion into Americans personal rights. Another 'requirement' placed upon us by a government that is supposedly looking out for us. The facts are, that the most conservative estimates say that it would cost a minimum of 1400 per year for a most basic health plan, most put that estimate at 2000-2600 per year. For the vast majority of those uninsured who are working, or middle class that means a choice between buying food for their kids and facing a huge tax fine at the end of the year, OR Obama mandated health care. It should be clearly noted that, Obama , the candidate, was against mandatory insurance, so he either lied then or he Lies now.
Obama said that illegal immigrants will not be covered by this plan. Great idea. Most Americans would support that. If you carefully look at the legislation as written right now, it is not totally clear. The facts are that illegal immigrants come into emergency rooms, doctors must still treat them, they run up the same bills as the insured, and when they do not pay those bills , the hospital must pass those costs along through higher fees to those who are insured.,
which under this proposal, would be everyone, so one way or another we will be paying for free health care for illegals, even if it is not in the bill. Once again, it is a logical "common sense" conclusion that Obama would prefer you ignore.
More Americans are living paycheck to paycheck than ever before. If you count those Americans who are unemployed and their benefits have run out 16 percent of America is unemployed. Obama's "media mouthpieces" point to the "good news" on wall street on a daily basis yet millions of Americans could not afford to buy stock if they wanted to. Many of the uninsured do not even have bank accounts, or if they do, are probably worried if their bank will be the next one to close. Since President Obama took office, and while propping up the banking elite, a whopping 89 banks, mostly regional ones have already closed this year .
Obama continues to extol the virtues of Medicare and the VA. If Medicare is an example of how the government covers you, then why do seniors have to go out and buy supplemental insurance for all the things it does not cover?
Ask any Veteran how long it takes to schedule a routine doctors appointment and how long before results of tests come back and a follow up appointment is scheduled and you will see just how "great" the VA system is.
Back in 1935 when social security was passed the American public was promised the maximum rate they would pay into social security would never increase, in 1956 it was increased to 4 percent, In 1961 6 percent, and raised again and again and today is 12.2 percent a 50/50 split between employee and employer.
Obama talked about a "deficit neutral" health care bill, yet none of the proposals in Congress meet that test, unless, you choose to ignore parts of the bill as legitimate costs and are counting hoped for "cost cutting" measures to actually work.. Most medical experts agree that with continual advances in medical treatments and new procedures there is no reliable way to estimate the potential impact on the deficit if all Americans can avail themselves to health care whenever they feel like it but none of these plans as currently written are Deficit Neutral.
The American public is smarter than this president assumes they are. They know the truth, they know that mandatory coverage will not lower costs. They know this will not be deficit neutral, and they know, like congressman Wilson knows, that this president is LYING to the American public.
Everyone agrees we need Health care reform, we do not need however ,the Obama Government undoing one of the best Health care systems in the world. Obama's speech likely did not move many in Congress one way or another, but it likely galvanized American opinion that this president is at a serious disconnect with Middle Americans who are more concerned about the failing state of our economy, huge deficit spending, and escalating war in Afghanistan and crippling unemployment.
It is time for this President to stop "legacy building" and get about the REAL business of fixing this nations economy.Do that first and you might see a second term. Run the economy further in the ground and watch the Conservatives take over. Your sinking poll numbers should be a hint about how Middle America really feels and what THEIR priorities are!.
