Will Obama's "other' Rezko Deal cost him the election and land him in Jail?

advertisement

While Obama's "house-lot" deal with Rezko has drawn some attention in the media it really points to more "bad judgement" than anything else. However, it is Obama "other dealing" as an attorney with Rezko that may ultimately be his political undoing and possibly land the candidate for president in Jail.

Obama ran his 96 campaign and championed 'better living conditions' and an end to "slumlords and bad housing"

Tony Rezko was a close friend , adviser and campaign fundraiser for Obama raising 250,000.00 for him.Obama, who has worked as a lawyer and a legislator to improve living conditions for the poor, took campaign donations from Rezko even as Rezko's slum housing empire was falling apart, leaving many African-American families in buildings riddled with problems that included awful living conditions, vacant apartments, no heat, squatters, vagrants and drug dealers. As reported by the Chicago Sun Times .

So as Obama called for better living conditions for the poor mostly black residents of his district he was being funded by one of Chicago's biggest slumlords in Obama's own district. In fact when during a period when Rezmar (Rezko's company) claimed they did not have money to keep heat on in some of their slum properties Rezmar donated 1000.00 to the Obama campaign.Rezmar owned 11 properties within Obama's district.

Obama appointed Rezko to serve on his U.S. Senate campaign finance committee,

Obama championed better housing yet he helped Rezko's company Rezmar get more GOVERNMENT loans which may not have been used to improve Rezmar's properties but in fact diverted for other purposes.

The fact is that Obama was an attorney with a small Chicago law firm , Davis Miner Barnhill & Galland, at one point that helped Rezmar (Rezkos company) get more than $43 million in government funding to rehab 15 of their 30 apartment buildings for the poor. Obama also worked with 3 community groups represented by Davis Miner Barnhill & Galland which were partners with Rezmar in the troubled housing deals. Obam worked for teh Law firm at the same time he was a State Senator.

Tony Rezko was indicted and found guilty of 16 counts of Influence pedding. He was scheduled to be sentenced just 10 fays before the election. However Mr Rezko is apparently 'cooperating with federal authorities" in exchange for a lighter sentence.

If the FEDS are talking to Rezko about. if Obama had knowledge that Rezmar was not using those funds 43 million dollars in government loans for a purpose other than they claimed to the government then Obama not only will be disbarred from the practice of law, and since he was also a state senator at the time. He as an attorney, represented Rezmar (Rezko) on those deals Obama could be charged with conspiracy to commit fraud as well as possible conflict of interest.

So at the 'highpoint" of Obama's career his long association with a corrupt influence peddling friend of 20 years may cost him the election and potentially land him in jail.

This could be the "October Surprise" that Obam has long feared.

The 'revealtion' that Tony Rezko is 'singing" to federal authorities couldn"t come at a worse time for Obama.

The media which has largely ignored this story because theyy are so 'pro Obama' must now cover Rezko. Also many undecided voter who may not have known that Obama took campaign money from someone he knew was a slumlord as he campaigned on a platform of improving living conditions and stopping "slum conditions' may have a difficult time supporting Obama's lack of morals.

If the Federal authorities are focusing on those loans Obama may have some serious challenges ahead of him. This could turn out right before the election to be a "John Edwards" moment when people see the 'real' Obama for the first time.

You have chosen to misrepresent the data, factual information in this news item; Truth is that Tony Rezko wrote the judge, told the judge that Prosecutors were giving him highly questionable Pressure/Intimidation to..."...tell them anything about Obama..." ..."They wanted any dirt, any connection to my business... there is none, there never was any...Obama's one of the good guys, one of the nice guys..."

THE JUDGE PUT SENTENCING ON HOLD UNTIL FBI- US Justice Investigates..the Rezko charges Against The Prosecutors...

Why do you only seem to post a "bait & Switch" message of lies? Some of us will go get the court records, read for ourselves

Hate to disagree with you but it has been reported by the associated press TODAY that  Rezko is co-operating with authorities.http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5hQmszDq4LOiRMcYNSaUdrmvTcB2AD93O8N500

"In addition, attorneys say federal investigators have been questioning Blagojevich contributions around the state using information that only Rezko could have supplied. Finally, courthouse personnel requesting anonymity because grand jury probes are secret said Rezko has been repeatedly brought from his cell to the U.S. attorney's office to talk to prosecutors."

Why on Earth would you link to an article which destroys the whole premise of you *own* article?

Rezko also was friendly with Obama — offering him a job when he finished law school, funding his earliest political campaigns and purchasing a lot next to his house. But based on the known facts, charges so far and testimony at Rezko's trial, there's no indication there'll be an October surprise that could hurt the Democratic presidential nominee — even though Rezko says prosecutors are pressing him for dirt about Obama.

"I think this strikes fear into the Blagojevich administration and the Statehouse Democrats but not into the Obama campaign," says state Sen. Kirk Dillard, R-Westmont, a John McCain delegate to the GOP convention but an old friend of Obama.

Oh yeah, he is just quaking in his boots. Good grief. One of the three stooges strikes again. You McFAILin sheep should take that tin foil hat off and stop watching Hannity and Fake News. It's been nearly two years with the rehashing of these old, worn out innuendos, and it's still just that, nothing but innuendos. Time is running out trying to make BS stick. Poor Hannity and friends are going to implode come November.

Hey No McGovern,

Didn't you get the memo?  McCain and surrogates are giving up on the negative character attacks because they aren't working and are, in fact, backfiring in the polls.  The new kinder, gentler McCain is actually going to try to discuss issues (even though he doesn't have a clue what he is going to say -- except: "I know how to fix this and you just need to trust me, friend").

You guys can keep repeating the names Ayers and Rezko until you are blue in the face, but it just isn't going to stick because there is nothing there.

no mcgovern you are absolutely correct. i just read an article on the internet that says rezko is singing like a bird this is not my words but a journalist for the chicago paper. i have to admit i have not kept up with this story  but now after reviewing this it looks like obama could be in very serious trouble and the "john edwards "moment whoever said that is so true. I thought one day edawards would have an excellent chance at the white house now he could not get elected mayor even though his issue is not the same as obamas but still very serious because if they can prove this there will be not such thing as "CHANGE FOR OBAMA" and the citizens will feel betrayed

Christ. It must be really easy for the Right on Newsvine to simply think something up, ask it as a question in a headline, and pay no attention to whether or not their commentary is based in reality. You cannot say "maybe" if "this and this and this and this" all happen to be true (though I have no idea of the truth of the matter" then this and this and this *might also* be true.

When we have one guy regularly comparing Obama to a Nazi and accusing him of treason, and NMR08 "asking" whether Obama might be going to Jail, *after* several articles are released in which Rezko has claimed he has absolutely nothing to provide regarding inappropriate conduct tied to Obama (despite an extra special attempt from the prosecuting team to get him to smear Obama) it couldn't be any more obvious that we've reached silly season.

And yet, we've seen nothing from NMR08 about Palin having *actually been found* to have abused her power as Governor.

Also let me point out that Obama had a legal and ethical conflict of interest in representing Rezko on the loans. Rezko was also receiving state money and Obama in addition to having a personal relationship with Rezko had a legal 'conflict of interest' because he was  state senator at the time.

He should not have performed legal work for client when it was a likely possibility that Obam would have to vote on state level appropriations that would have directly benefitted Rezko.

You totally can question it.  Question it all that you like.  But leaving things at a question is like watching Lost for the way it solves cliff hangers, it doesn't make sense.  When I see questions such as "Is Obama in bed with Rezko" or "Does McCain really have a disability that precludes him from using a computer", I try and do what I figure most people should do.  Investigate it and then comment from there.  Most of what I've been seeing on the Vine from some folks is to continually serve up the same content in the hope that maybe this time it'll all of the sudden make sense.

I haven't yet seen a positive Dem article from this column. Not one. If you are going to list that in your header, you should at least toss out a crumb to your own party once in a while just to keep the facade going.

You are a Republican. No need to be ashamed about it. It's a two-party system, basically. But honesty with oneself is first and foremost.

Since the Rezco thing comes along as just another in a long series of attacks, it will get reletively little attention from voters, who are more worried about whether they will have a job, be able to buy food for their families, keep their house, etc. by next spring.

Sorry to rain on your right wing parade, but here's a summary of the facts about Obama and  Rezko. Nice try though. You keep at rooting around for garbage and the rest of us will sit back and watch your ticket hang themselves a little more every day.

"Here’s what happened: In 2005, Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, bid $1.65 million for a house on the south side of Chicago. According to newspaper reports, the owner was also trying to sell an undeveloped parcel of land adjacent to the property Obama was buying, and he wanted the sales of the two to close on the same day. Obama has said that he mentioned he was buying the house to a longtime political patron, Antoin (Tony) Rezko, a developer. Rezko’s wife wound up buying the lot adjacent to Obama’s. At the request of the Obamas, who were seeking a bit more space for their yard, she later sold them a 10-foot wide strip, or about one-sixth, of her land. The Obamas paid $104,500 for it, or about one-sixth of what Mrs. Rezko had paid for the entire property.

Obama doesn’t appear to have reaped any financial advantages from the transactions. The reason the deal has received a good bit of attention is that Tony Rezko – whose political contributions to Illinois’ former governor, Obama and others totaled in the hundreds of thousands of dollars – was known to be under federal investigation at the time the Obamas were purchasing their home. In 2006, Rezko was indicted in three federal cases: Two involved fraud schemes in which he allegedly demanded payments from firms wanting work from the enormous Illinois teachers’ pension fund and from those wanting favorable rulings from a state board that regulates the building of new hospital facilities. In the third, he was charged with fraudulently obtaining more than $10 million in loans for a pizza restaurant business; in December 2007, prosecutors added more fraud counts to that indictment.

Obama has a relationship with Rezko that dates back many years, but there’s no indication Obama did anything improper. Shortly after finishing law school, Obama, who had turned down a job offer from the developer, went to work at a law firm where he represented some community groups that partnered with Rezko to apply for housing rehabilitation loans. As a state legislator, he wrote letters to city and state officials in support of Rezko’s efforts to build apartments for the elderly with government money; the senator asserts that this was a project the community wanted. Obama got together with Rezko a couple of times a year, he has said.

Obama has donated campaign contributions from Rezko and his associates to charity, and he said in 2006, when the real estate transaction was reported by the press, that he made a “boneheaded” mistake by participating in the deal when it was known that Rezko was being investigated. “I regret it,” Obama said. “I’m going to make sure from this point on I don’t even come close to the line.”

Dave Hunter!  I didn't even want to read your response!  First of all, like I need to hear you spout off some FACTS!  (as if facts are even true)

I want to hear some more conjecture and blind assumptions based on theories.  I want to hear people's biased opinions that seem to be perverted from a bitterness and hatred.  All your facts are going to do is allow actual dialogue in the democratic process and as McCain/Palin have showed us... that is the last thing America wants.  Bring on the unsubstantiated dirt!

The really BIG story here should be the undue pressure put upon Rezko to come up with evidence linking Obama. I wonder if the interrogators used torture. Will there be an investigation of the investigators? Since No McGovern Repeat 08 seems to know something about this matter maybe he/she should be interrogated Neocon style for more facts.

Okay, I am worried about the fact that my retirement fund has lost half its value and my son's college plan to boot.  I dont give a sh!@ about who was friends with who back when.  They all have shady characters in their past, all of them so John McCain and Sarah Palin are no angels and just like I dont hold it against them I won't hold it against Obama.
Uhh, wasn't it SP who told JB that he kept looking into the past instead of telling what they would do in the future, why won't they do the same.  This guilt by association BS is just that BS.  All you so call christians need to get a life and stop being so doggone judgemental.  Everyone has done things they were not proud of or knows someone who did.  If we crusified everyone who ever did something bad there would be no one left.  Get over this BS and talk about the issues!
As someone who is currently serving in the military I don't agree with this war and I don't want either myself, my husband or my sister in IRAQ.  In fact the people I work with don't want it either.  We are tired and we want this to stop.  I'm tired of hearing about this home with victory stuff.  Someone explain to me just exactly what the heck victory is because no one can explain that one.  Lets talk about the fact that my unit can't even get the basic funding we need just to stay afloat and the fact that we have to beg for money and tools we need to operate and train.  Why, because the budgets were cut because of IRAQ!  Hmm but were taking care of the troops.  Taking care of the troops my ass.  How about the fact that my husband was in Afghanistan and saw all of their supplies being shipped to IRAQ and having the bare minimum and almost being killed.  Taking care of the troops my ass.
What bothers me the most about John McCain is the fact that he is a veteran and yet his rating from the IRAQ/Afghanistan veterans group is a D. WTF is that all about?  He didn't even bother to show up for the vote on the new GI bill said it was too generous and we wouldn't stay in?  WTF?  People are getting out left and right because they feel like the military doesn't care about them.  Trust me its happening more than you think, they just don't talk about it as much.  As a women I don't like the fact that he doesn't believe in equal pay, he wants to overturn Roe V Wade.  As an African American he didn't think MLK should have a holiday.  I could go on and on.  ENOUGH OF THE BULLSH!* it is so tired and old.  These people are behaving like children who had there toys taken away its ridiculous.
My last thought about McCain is I got the feeling that all the personal attacks stem from something else like maybe the fact that McCain feels like this was his time, his last chance to one up his father/grandfather.  Out of nowhere this guy came and could possibly take it all from him.  Just my opinion seems awfully like Clinton to me.
So please spare me the Obama is a scary liar BS!  I'm not buying it.  I do not want a commander in chief who believes in the anything goes mentality and his VP nominee who is not curious about the world around her. Anyone can read a speak, do an interview or hold a press conference on someother network besides fox noise  She is very scary to me and I can not see her as my CIC.

For all of you who so up in arms about Obama's associations, what about John McCain's service on the Board of the U.S. Council of World Freedom?....it had strong ties to Iran Contra, and was affiliated with the World Anti-Communist League which the Anti-Defamation League stated,"has increasingly become a gathering place, a forum, a point of contact for extremists, racists, and Anti-Semites".  Although McCain was on the board in the 1980s, what do all of you who support McCain/Palin think about this?  Have you bothered to explore the associations of McCain and Palin, or doesn't it matter to you? What about "fair play"?

Why is it every inuenndo against McCain is accepted withoug question by you lefties, yet a negative Obama story that has been vetted by a major newspaper is reason to believe the right is desperate?

The hyprocrasy from the left is far greater than the right. You so desperately want "change" you are willing to elect a possible criminal to the Oval office.

At best, Obama is another slick-talking Chicago lawyer and politician. An empty suit with a line of BS.

At worst, he is Barack Hussein Obama, a closet Muslim fundalementist whose goal is to take over the US by vote as they cannot do it by sword.

Reality is, somewhere in between. When it comes to dealing with the middle east potentates, he will be another Neville Chamberlain.

He advocates for "womens rights" ignoring that life starts at conception, and that abortion kills millions of Americans each year.

He has had no executive experience. NONE.

All his double talk about fiscal and budget policy is smoke and mirrors. He is a tax-and-spend democrat like any other.

Obama has no clue as to get out of this economic mess. The best financial minds in the world are grasping at straws, so why does he arrogantly feel he knows.

Like Bill Clinton, he never served in the military. He has shown disrespect for our men and women in uniform on numerous occasions. He has no concept on how to get us out of Iraf and Afganistan other than fold up and run. Of course if he IS a closet Muslim, that might just be his goal.

No, Obama is bad news. I'm glad some of the truth is starting to trickle out.

Yeah, it's like someone stating that the world is clearly flat, and then asking you to believe their explanation of economic factors that caused the market collapse.  There is a complete disconnect.

At worst, he is Barack Hussein Obama, a closet Muslim fundalementist whose goal is to take over the US by vote as they cannot do it by sword.

Your fear of difference is pathetic. You know what, even if he is a closet Muslim, I will still vote for him, if only to keep that deranged old War-Failure, John McCain, out of office.

The outrage is that John "mayday" McCain is drawing a disability pension from the US Navy while a) having a multi-millionaire wife b) getting a salary as a US Senator with health benefits and another pension coming c) being quite able to move around and throw stones.

He didn't earn a thing in the military.  he crashed 2 planes before he went to South East Asia.  There was a fire he was involved in but did not start on the U<S<S< Forrestal .  John McCain went below decks did not help fight the fire went in a lounge and played cards.  Many of his military members on board died.  On board ship everyone is supposed to be a fire fighter.  He was a bomber pilot not a fighter pilot flew missions over Hanoi and was shot down.  Fished out of a lake and beaten by citizens and turned over to military.  He told his captives who he was the fact he was The 4 star admirals son.  He gave informastion about his fellow pilots their families and where they were from Hanoi Hanna the Voice of North Vietnam radio used to demoralize  troops.  He recieved special food and treatment.  Read his book he admits to it said he was sorry.  Years later after his release he went back to North Vietnam and told them their country is his country.

I am so sick of the Repubs stating that any Obama supporter is somehow blindly following some "earthly deity".  Just because we believe in the candidate of our choice doesn't make him a "savior".  Barack Obama is just a man.  My company just laid off 300 people.  Talk about that, John McCain.  I've lost money in my 401K, talk about that John McCain.  My healthcare insurance is costing my family a fortune, talk about that John McCain.  I really don't care about the "questionable" associations of either candidate because neither of them are above these innuendos.  John McCain/Sarah Palin, either talk about the issues or shut up.

Yes I am a moderate democrat which is why I am not voting for a socialist like Obama and as for the KKK reference, Hate to disapoint you but my wife of many years is Black and we have two lovely children, Once again sterotypical leftist labeling.

Funny how Obama supports always pull the race card when faced with the reality that their candidate is just another sleazy politician.

Interesting.  Politicalcenter, another one who professes to be a moderate democrat while espousing right-wing rhetoric, also tries to bolster his credibility by stating there are blacks in his immediate family.  You two may be more alike than I thought.  Somehow, I expect you will both disappear from Newsvine on November 5, when your persona's raison d'etre evaporates.

'Yes I am a moderate democrat...'

This statement does not match the facts regarding your column. As I said before, you have not a single pro-Dem article in the bunch. No suggestions on policy changes by Obama you don't agree with, no support of another Dem candidate.

It matches the facts as well as any other statement he has made in his column. I don't really know who these guys think they are pandering to.  Any true centrist will read their hyperbole and demagoguery and immediately know they are just shilling for the right wing.

Micrometer-  So if Barack Obama had changed his name to his nickname Barry and taken him mother's Irish last name, would you still think he was a secret Muslim terrorist?  Also, since you are apparently "pro life" are you also against the death penalty and war? You know that 10s of thousands of innocent Iraqi men, women and children have been killed in Iraq.  Does that bother you at all?  Or are their lives less valuable because they aren't American lives?

As a matter of fact, I am pro life, and proudly so.

That position also extends to the death penalty and to the war(s), and to other life issues.

My stand is not different when it comes to a victims race, nationality or faith.

I recognize that this tit for tat stuff is all a distraction from the fact that McCain/Palin offer no real solutions to any of the serious problems and challenges we all face. I chose to post this link to a story that puts in perspective how delusional the tactics of the far right are in that on there side the list of "guilty associations" is a virtual laundry list versus the few that are recycled endlessly on Obama.
