We've all heard his dramatic speeches before devoted followers, she said. But when the cloud of rhetoric has passed, when the roar of the crowd fades away, when the stadium lights go out and those styrofoam Greek columns are hauled back to some studio lot, what exactly is our opponents plan?
That is the question that Middle america has been asking for months.
While Obama supporters here on Newsvine can quote Obama's plan chapter and verse, Middle America has not connected with Obama and that is problematic for his campaign.
Now you can anylize it,but Obama's fundamental problem, and its not his fault, is his education. Obama has spent years in a rarified atmosphere, prestigious private academy in Hawaii, Harvard Law, The Illinois State Senate, The US Senate. He has probably attended more cocktail parties in one year than most Americans will go to in a lifetime.
Obama is articulate and smart, but maybe 'too smart" for Middle America.
Sarah Palin "gets it" and Middle America "gets it". Her speech last night was remarkable not for what she said but the connection she made with Middle America. The recent Gallup polls show 21 percent of voters are undecided. Now to look on places like Newsvine, you might ask "undecided voters"?
They are out there. McCains choice of Palin was a brilliant one. Not because she might be the "Best Choice" or the smartest woman in America, she isnt. What she is is what America hopes to be, Strong and independent, not afraid to take chances, she has fought her way to the top.
She didn't do it with a Harvard law degree and that is maybe why she can connect with the common man or woman.
Now how will we know if McCains choice was a home run or a strike?
Things to look for. Within a week or 10 days we should have some Polling date, real data, not "convention bounce" data. Key states to look at would be the swing states of PA, OH, MI, VA.
Currently Obama has a lead In Michigan and Pennsylvania, Virginia is essentiall a tie, McCain leads in Ohio.
If we see the Obama lead begin to errode In Michigan and Pennsylvaia and McCain's lead strengthen in Ohio, then the Obama campaign is in serious trouble. This will be evidence that McCain Palin has connected with Middle America, the "bitter/clinging" folks that voted overwhelmingly for Clinton, the "Reagan Democrats". It will also signal movement among the 21 percent undecided voter block.
Other key states to look at are Colorado and New Hamshire where Obama has a "slight lead" less than a point. If those shift to McCain we may be seeing a McCain presidency come November
I fully expect this to be a close election Popular vote wise. It is the Electoral college that will make the difference here. I could even see a situation developing where Obama wins the Popular vote yet loses the election on Electoral College.
If McCain-Palin can reach Middle America, and Palin seemed to play well last night. Then McCain-Palin wins those key swing states you MUST WIN to get elected..
Good post, I would agree with your view, I know personally I was undecided until I heard about McCain's choice, I had read a little about her when I was looking up VP choices. I like her because she doesn't put up with the what the norm is in politics, she does what she sees right. I know my family all now love McCain for his choice of VP. I doubt this will come back as a bad thing, but I guess we have to see what everybody else thinks.
she does what she sees right
Therein lies my problem with her. To me she comes across as someone who will do what her god tells her to do and not what mine would have her do. Just what we need. Another person who thinks god tells her what she should do and then to hell with everyone else.

Now there I'll have to disagree, yes religion is important to her, but that's okay, I don't think that will interfere with her decision making, I think that just sets her morals and standards, some DC could use more of. I think she's smart enough to separate those of what would be right for the general public and not what she personally sees as right. I don't know, I'm not her, I'll just hope she can prove me right.
I believe that she is what the GOP needed for a long time. McCain and Palin have my vote! Palin is better qualified and experienced than Obama, by a long shot. The only draw Obama has is his charisma. He is a novelty that will easily grow old after a short time.

Uhh, what?!
Palin thinks the invasion of Iraq is God's work, and said so in front of the congregation at her church. It's on video. That's a positively medieval mindset. Ever heard of the Crusades? The civilized countries of the west gave up religious wars a long time ago. The framers made a big deal about excluding religious tests -- it's right there in the Constitution. They did so for a reason. Having fundamentalist whacko's starting wars over who's god is better is strictly barbarian.
